So you’ve set up your course pages, and are slowly having parents and students hop on board Canvas. Some of us are a little overwhelmed with all the features of Canvas and may even be struggling with where to begin when it comes to adding course content. Until that time of Canvas comfort and confidence comes, you can at least be a communication master in Canvas. Parents, and maybe students, will appreciate this. Below are the three ways to make you Canvas superhero.
Announcements
Announcements are simple ways to communicate to your students on up coming events, reminders, or general messages that have a focused message. There are not a lot of complex options or settings with this feature compared to other features in Canvas. You can even add attachments, links, interactive media to your announcements.

Files
If you need to share out digital resources, the course files section is a great place to drop, organize, and allow it to be a one-stop-shop of digital files for students and parents. You can even pre-load files and schedule when they become available to students.

Calendar Events
Adding events to the global calendar are a great way to help keep you and your students organized. It’s advertisement to important dates that are happening in your classroom, like test dates, end of grading periods, due dates to projects, and more. Students can see these dates as they compare to other important dates from other classes and clubs so they can be more organized and properly prepared for class.

Utilizing, at least, these three items will help keep students and parents informed and organized on what is happening in your classroom. If you need additional help with these items, let me or a Canvas representative know, and we’ll be more than happy to help.
